Folk Art Meets Contemporary Art at the Cobra Museum (till September 4)

As traditional skills and handicrafts, often dubbed "reskills", enjoy a Renaissance in Europe and elsewhere, the Cobra Museum has taken the opportunity to translate this phenomenon into the realm of visual arts: how does folk culture manifest in contemporary art?

In the new exhibit Sowing and Weeding: Folk Culture and Contemporary Art -- on now until September 4, 2011 -- the Cobra Museum explores this theme in the art of Cobra and other international artists. The Cobra art movement of the late 1940s drew much inspiration from folk culture, which makes the Cobra Museum in Amstelveen an ideal place to witness how artists continue to weave these traditional cultures into their oeuvres. For visitor information and travel advice, see the Amsterdam Travel profile of the Cobra Museum.
