In the dead of winter, experience some tropical heat at the Hortus Botanicus (Botanical Garden) of Amsterdam. Greenhouses that simulate various climates are carefully monitored to sustain the many exotic plant species, some of which were introduced by  the Dutch East India Company as far back as the 17th century, when the Hortus was founded.
