The Lloyd Hotel, located on the Oostelijke Handelskade in the Eastern Docklands area, has quite an interesting history. Built between 1917 and 1920, it was originally designed to house emigrants moving from Eastern Europe to South America. During World War II, Germans used the hotel as a house of detention.
In 2004, the Lloyd became the first hotel in the world to offer guests a choice of one- to five-star rated rooms.
