Built between 1889 and 1891 in a mix of neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque styles, the St. Urbanus Kerk in the village of Nes was the first church designed by Joseph (Jos.) Cuypers. Son of more-famous architect P.J.H. (Pierre) Cuypers, Jos. Cuypers also designed Amsterdam's Securities Exchange building (adjacent to the Beurs van Berlage, or Stock Exchange).
