Amsterdam's Premiere Ship Festival Comes to Town

By , About.com Guide

Only once in every five years, SAIL arrives in Amsterdam with a fleet of ships in tow. The world's most impressive tall ships anchor in Amsterdam, one port-of-call in a continent-wide ship race, as the Dutch turn out to admire the vessels from bow to stern.

These snapshots were taken at SAIL 2010. Your next opportunity to catch SAIL isn't until 2015, but ship enthusiasts can always check out the Scheepvaartmuseum (National Maritime Museum) in Amsterdam -- open from October 2, 2011 -- or take a day-trip to the Maritime Museum in Rotterdam or the Batavia Wharf in Lelystad.
