Although Halloween is not a widely celebrated holiday in the Netherlands, in a city as international as Amsterdam you'll find some clubs filled with costumed customers looking for a reason to be festive. - Popular Leidseplein comedy club Boom Chicago hosts its annual Halloween bash, which includes a € 500 prize for best costume! This year's theme is Halloween Thriller, an homage to horror movies. But don't just come in a gory costume; come with your dramatic skills polished. The party will double as a real movie set for a bloody B movie done Amsterdam style. Cost: € 18.50 pre-sale, € 22 at the door .
- Of course the American-born Hard Rock Café has to have a Halloween party. If you join the staff in dressing up you'll receive a free "Witches Brew" cocktail. Be there by midnight for the best costume contest -- the winner gets € 250!
- The historic Paradiso music venue celebrates this year with the Halloween Hairball. Whether you draw inspiration from Cousin It or Amy Winehouse, you'll need to be hairy to be scary here. The Amsterdam Beat Club will groove upstairs; in the basement you'll find freaky side shows. Cost: € 15.
Halloween in Amsterdam for Kids:
The Hard Rock Café also offers a "Little Monsters' and Witches' Party" on Sunday, November 1 at 11 a.m. Dress up the kids and take them in for trick-or-treating, games, prizes and face painting (free entry).
