What Is the Affordable Art Fair?
After nearly a decade of successful events in London, New York, Sydney and Melbourne, the Affordable Art Fair (AAF) came to Amsterdam for the first time in 2007, drawing more than 9,000 visitors. Featuring contemporary art from more than 85 galleries in Europe, Asia and Australia, all pieces -- which include everything from paintings and photography to sculpture and digital art -- are priced between € 100 and € 5,000.
Where Is the Affordable Art Fair Held?
True to its nature as a hip, relaxed event, the AAF turns to Amsterdam's Westergasfabriek cultural complex for a unique, unexpected venue -- the collection of former 19th-century gas-production facilities has been transformed into one of the city's coolest venues for dining, nightlife and cultural events. The AAF occupies what is perhaps the most impressively repurposed building, the Gashouder, an actual former gas storage structure that now offers 27,000 square feet of event space.
The Westergasfabriek complex is located in the northwestern part of the city, just outside the Jordaan neighborhood and adjacent to the Westerpark. For specific directions, see the AAF website.
