Amsterdam in Summer

If you visit Amsterdam in summer, you'll be joined by the biggest tourist crowds of the year. But if you're willing to share the city and endure long lines at attractions, you'll be rewarded with mild temperatures, long days, and myriad outdoor festivals. With café terraces on every block and 10 p.m. sunsets, eating and people-watching alfresco is an art form in summer.

June kicks off with the Holland Festival, the first of back-to-back summer events in Amsterdam. More favorite summer festivals include Open Garden Days, Roots Festival, the Gay Pride Parade and the Grachtenfestival.

Amsterdam flights and accommodations prices are at their highest in summer and don't usually go down until well into September. As this is high season, you'll want to book accommodations at least a few months in advance, if not more.
