It's a small, family-run property; yet the standard of service is what you'd expect from a larger, higher-rated hotel (travel and excursion planning is available and the property caters to business clients).
Tram lines are conveniently located close to both ends of its street; but the building's mid-block location cancels out the loud ding of tram bells in your dreams.
A quaint dining room and adjacent sunroom make for a cozy morning meal; but an "American-style" buffet with eggs quells any fears you might have about the sparse bread-and-jam breakfasts some smaller hotels are known for.
And while visitors are well within walking distance to busy center squares like Leidseplein (about a 15-minute walk) and popular museums (Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum are practically in the back yard), they can retreat at night to a place that feels much more small-village than big-city.
The serene atmosphere is no mistake. Cheery co-owner Anita Wiryasaputra and her husband put a lot of effort into creating a clean, calming environment with minimalist yet elegant interiors of silk bedding and curtains, and sparkling bathrooms with new fixtures and tile floors (all bathrooms have a bath and shower, except in singles).
Guests of the Hotel van de Kasteelen will experience modern comforts with a taste of old-fashioned attention to detail, in the heart of Amsterdam's posh yet quaint Museum Quarter.
